The Scunthorpe United goalkeeper hasn’t won since the January transfer window shut and brought an end to speculation linking him with Rangers.
With Jak Alnwick still yet to make his debut in Rangers colours, there’s no guarantee that Scunthorpe United goalkeeper Luke Daniels would be anywhere other than the bench had he, rather than the former Port Vale shot-stopper, made the move to Ibrox in January.
HITC sources told us that Rangers, along with Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town, had been tracking Daniels’ progress after his stand-out performances between the sticks helped The Iron to the top of the third tier table.
Eventually, however, Alnwick was plucked instead from lower down the League One ladder, though the performances of Wes Foderingham means the former Newcastle United youngster will have to be patient to get his chance north of the border.
However, will Daniels still wish it was he, rather than his third tier rival (below), that was handed the not-too-humbling task of replacing Matt Gilks as Rangers’ understudy?
Since the January transfer window slammed shut, the roof appears to have caved in at Glanford Park.
Scunthorpe are winless in eight games since the start of February, losing five and conceding 12 goals in the process.
Consequently, their promotion challenge has stalled somewhat and they are now three points behind Fleetwood United in second and eleven adrift of runaway leaders Sheffield United.
If the unthinkable occurs and Scunthorpe end up mired in the third tier for another season, don’t put any huge bets on Daniels remaining at the club beyond the summer.
