Premier League duo Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers have both been tipped to sign former Manchester City midfielder Toure

If Yaya Toure was hoping to see out the remainder of his career at Olympiakos, that dream has died already.

The Greek giants have made the decision to terminate the veteran midfielder’s contract after just three months and five appearances. According to Sport 24, manager Pedro Martins had expected more and was disappointed by Toure’s inability to make an impact.

Now, it remains to be seen what the future holds.

Back in May, The Mirror claimed that Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen to keep Toure in the Premier League at the end of his time at Manchester City, only for the midfielder to make the move across the continent instead.

And his new-found availability will surely catch the eye at Goodison Park and Molineux. Both Everton and Wolves have squads chock-full of young, promising players who would surely only benefit from working alongside a decorated 35-year-old who won three Premier League titles with City and the Champions League with Barcelona.

Furthermore, Wolves appear determined to strengthen in January while, according to the Liverpool Echo, Everton’s head coach Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands are in agreement that a new, powerful central midfielder is needed.

But with Toure having flopped spectacularly in Olympiakos, and looking well past his best in his final few years at The Etihad, Everton and Wolves should both perhaps think better about offering Toure a return to England.

And, even if he is available on a free, that does not mean Toure would not command a huge weekly wage.

The negatives perhaps outweigh the positives.
