Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard has been one of the stars of the Bundesliga season and Premier League giants Spurs are big fans.
Bayer Leverkusen’s German international Jonathan Tah is not the only Bundesliga centre-back on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.
Bild claimed last week that Spurs have also been keeping a keen eye on the highly-rated Stuttgart stopper Benjamin Pavard. The 21-year-old, who is desperate to force his way into France’s World Cup squad after receiving a first call up in November, has been outstanding for Stuttgart since their return to the Bundesliga this season.
And Pavard’s qualities have certainly not gone unnoticed by those at the Mercedes Benz Arena of late.
“Recently, [Stuttgart team-mate] Mario Gomez called me Lilian Thuram. A physio even told me that I made him think of Franz Beckenbauer,” Pavard, who is capable of playing at right-back or defensive midfield, said in quotes reported by MaxiFoot.
Now, being compared to France legend Thuram, one of the best defenders of his generation, and Germany’s 1974 World Cup winning captain Beckenbauer, arguably the greatest centre-half in footballing history, is quite the achievement for a player so young.
But it is not just in Stuttgart where Pavard’s qualities are being noticed. He was named the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Month for February, an award voted for by the fans for the league’s standout young player over the last four weeks.
So with Bild claiming that Pavard is worth as little as £11 million, Spurs should not wait around.
If he continues to shine and earns a seat on the plane to Russia, his value will surely sky rocket.
