Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were reportedly competing to lure Aleksandar Prijovic to the Championship but now there is interest from France.
Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers will both have to move quickly if they want to sign Aleksandar Prijovic this month.
Goal Cyprus claimed that Leeds were interested in PAOK’s impressive centre-forward at the start of this month and reports in Poland, via SuperExpress, claimed that Championship rivals Wolves were keen to hijack their approach.
It is understood that Greek side PAOK would demand around £4 million for Prijovic; not bad value for a player who has scored eight goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season.
But there is now a new suitor in town. According to L’Equipe, Ligue 1 side Rennes have made signing the Serb their priority during the January window. It is understood that they had a bid of around £2.6 million rejected on Wednesday but are expected to make an improved offer by the end of the week.
While Wolves are running away with the Championship title and look set to be a Premier League team sooner rather than later, reports of interest from France’s top tier could cast doubt on Leeds’ hopes of luring Prijovic to Elland Road.
Though, the Express and Star has suggested that Leeds could be Prijovic’s most likely destination in England as Wolves are unlikely to spend money on another striker if new signing Rafa Mir makes a good impression in his first month at Molineux.
But with an opening bid on the table from Rennes, now is the time for Leeds to make their move if they really want to sign Prijovic.
