Celtic have signed the highly-rated Northern Ireland goalkeeper Liam Hughes from NIFL club Dungannon Swifts.
The transfer window might have closed three weeks ago, but Celtic are still striking deals to add a couple of exciting young talents to their squad.
Australian teenager Leo Mazis signed a contract with the Scottish Premiership champions earlier this month after impressing on a trial period.
And he will be joined in Celtic’s academy by the promising Northern Irish goalkeeping prodigy Liam Hughes.
Despite being just 16 years of age, Hughes has already played senior football for NIFL side Dungannon Swifts and has also represented his country at U17 level.
And Celtic confirmed via their official Twitter account that the highly-rated shot-stopper has been handed his big break at Parkhead, much to the delight of his fans back home.
Celtic represents something of a dream move for many an Irish prospect, and big things will be expected of Hughes at a club who are renowned for providing a platform for some of Britain’s most exciting youngsters.
And if the responses by those in the know are anything to go by, Brendan Rodgers’ side might have a real talent on his hands in his fresh-faced compatriot.
Hughes is arguably the most promising goalkeeper in Northern Ireland’s ranks right now and should only go from strength to strength under the nurturing and coaching of Rodgers.
