Derby County released striker Lewis Walker in August but can he thrive in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers?
Lewis Walker has just been handed a second chance to prove himself in the second tier of English football.
According to Derbyshire Live, the 19-year-old striker was released by Derby County with ‘mutual consent’ in August, having failed to make a single first-team appearance for The Rams after arriving from Ilkeston Town in January 2016.
Walker did progress from the U18s to the U23s during his time in the East Midlands, even scoring four goals in a 7-2 thrashing of Birmingham City in a Premier League Cup clash, but it seems that the first-team was one step too far.
The forward, however, will be hoping to make more of an impact at his new club – Queens Park Rangers.
According to the Rs official website, QPR have decided to hand Walker a contract after a successful trial with the club and he, alongside former Watford centre-back Charlie Rowan, will link up with Paul Hall’s U23 squad for the foreseeable future.
Derbyshire Live add that Derby beat a number of Premier League sides to Walker’s signature when they signed him two years ago, and QPR fans will be hoping that he highlights this undoubted potential during his time at Loftus Road.
