Lewis Ferguson ran the show as the Dons beat Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers at Ibrox in March’s feisty cup clash.
Lewis Ferguson has claimed that his Rangers-daft brother could not even look him in the eye after the midfielder played a starring role in Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup quarter-final win at Ibrox, while speaking to the Daily Record.
The Scotland U21 international started his footballing career at Rangers a decade ago but he was allowed to walk away from Ibrox in 2017.
And Ferguson continues to show the Glasgow giants what they are missing as he goes from strength to strength at Pittodrie via a short-term spell at Hamilton Academical.
And the 19-year-old came back to haunt Rangers on his return to Ibrox in March, running the show as Derek McInnes’s Aberdeen triumphed 2-0 away from home to set up a Scottish Cup semi-final meeting with Celtic at Hampden Park. This came just six months after he scored the only goal in the Dons League Cup last-four victory over Steven Gerrard’s side.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Ferguson admits with a grin that his match-winning performance didn’t go down too well in the family home.
“The one against Rangers to win a semi-final at Hampden was massive,” said the teenager, who is the nephew of former Gers captain Barry Ferguson.
“I was allowed back in the house and one of my brothers shook my hand when I got in but the other one didn’t look at me.
“He just kept watching the telly but he was all right after a couple of minutes after me winding him up.”
With the benefit of hindsight, Rangers would surely think better of letting Ferguson go as the youngster continues to thrive under McInnes at Aberdeen.
