A disagreement between Ian Holloway and Karl Henry looks to have ended the midfielder’s Queens Park Rangers career.

Queens Park Rangers Director of Football Les Ferdinand has admitted to the Brent and Kilburn Times that they are desperately trying to ship Karl Henry out of the club although a lack of interest is making that increasingly difficult.

The veteran midfielder last featured for the club in the home defeat to Wolves on 1 December and he was demoted to the reserves by manager Ian Holloway and made available for transfer following a falling out.

And the Bristolian boss confirmed to West London Sport earlier in the month that Henry, whose contract expires at the end of the season anyway, would be allowed to leave in January.

That was before QPR agreed a deal with Manchester United youngster Sean Goss, who appears likely to take Henry’s place in the team.

However, Ferdinand admits that it is proving difficult to shift the 34-year-old former Wolves and Stoke midfielder.

“Karl Henry is someone who has been an excellent servant to this club and he’ll be with us until the end of the season, unless the situation changes,” Ferdinand said in quotes reported by the Brent and Kilburn Times.

QPR's Karl Henry

“There’s been no firm interest in him recently but Karl is at the age where he wants to be playing every week, so we’d let him go out on loan if that opportunity arose for him.”

However, while Henry remains a divisive figure, a scapegoat among some supporters, it must be remembered that he led QPR into the Premier League in 2014 while he remains a model professional, featuring in 98 league games across the last three seasons.

On balance, this seems a rather unfortunate way to bow out.
