Steve Bruce once again failed to bring Leicester City’s Ulloa to Championship hopefuls Aston Villa with the striker rejoining Brighton instead.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce tried and failed to sign Leonardo Ulloa for the third straight transfer window back in January.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Bruce wanted Ulloa at Villa Park in the winter and the summer of 2017, and made a move for the Argentine target man yet again three months ago, when it became clear that he would be allowed to leave Leicester City.

But, once again, Ulloa left Bruce frustrated.

The chance to stay in the Premier League and return to former club Brighton, who he represented with distinction between 2012 and 2014, proved impossible to turn down. But, looking back, perhaps Ulloa made the wrong choice.

The 31-year-old has managed just six appearances since making the move back to The Amex and every single one has come from the substitutes’ bench. With Glenn Murray the club’s number one centre-forward, Ulloa has played a grand total of 115 minutes since January.

So, although Ulloa said back in February that he wanted a permanent deal at Brighton, it would not be surprising to learn that he had changed his mind. After all, the desire for first-team football was the main reason why he was so desperate to leave Leicester in the first place.

Ulloa certainly would have found starts easier to come by at Aston Villa, especially as Bruce probably would not have brought in Lewis Grabban had he managed to finally get Ulloa in that claret and blue kit.
