Wolverhampton Wanderers handed Leo Bonatini a chance to prove himself in the Premier League despite a long barren run in the Championship

The jury is out on whether Leo Bonatini deserves a second spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Despite failing to score in his final 25 games of last season’s loan at Molineux, Wolves took the somewhat surprising decision to sign the Brazilian striker on a permanent deal from Al Hilal. It is understood that Bonatini cost around £5 million.

But while some sections of the Wolves support seem far from certain about the return of the 24-year-old, there is no doubting just how happy Bonatini is to be back in the Black Country.

After featuring in Wolves’ 2-1 pre-season victory against FC Basel on Tuesday, Bonatini posted an emotional message on his official Twitter account which should leave supporters in no doubt about his commitment to the cause.

Throughout the 2017/18 season, Bonatini barely missed a chance to let supporters know just how much he was enjoying his spell in those famous Wolves colours.

And it must be remembered that he did enjoy a superb start to life in England, scoring 12 goals in the first half of the campaign and winning the Championship’s Player of the Month award for October.

His performance against Basel was lively too with his link-up play impressing even if he didn’t get on the scoresheet. The question now is whether Bonatini can hit the net in the Premier League and end a goal drought that stretches back to December.
