Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle United both reportedly want to sign Yussuf Poulsen from Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig.
It is a testament to the strength of this fearsome RB Leipzig team that they still managed to win 3-0 away at Werder Bremen on Saturday without the man who sticks everything together at centre-forward.
6ft 4ins Denmark international Yussuf Poulsen might not be the most glamorous name in Leipzig’s squad but there’s a reason why he’s one of the first names on the Bundesliga leaders’ team-sheet.
Poulsen provides a link between midfield and attack, gets the best out of strike partner Timo Werner and, in six games this season, he’s already got six assists. That’s just two shy of his tally from 2018/19, when he also netted 19 goals in all competitions.
No wonder Everton and Newcastle United, who are lacking any sort of presence up front, are interested. According to the Express, under-fire Marco Silva has ordered Everton’s scouts to watch Poulsen first hand ahead of a potential January bid.
But Leipzig are never going to give Poulsen away without a fight.
“(Against Bremen) we missed a component because he’s incredibly aggressive and an incredible role model,” Nagelsmann told Sportbuzzer.
“He has a great mentality.”
Poulsen is exactly the kind of unselfish link-man who could help to get the best out of Miguel Almiron, Alex Iwobi or Moise Kean at Everton or Newcastle.
He is a player who makes everyone around him just that little bit better – just ask Timo Werner.
