Nottingham Forest reportedly tried and failed to bring Leicester’s 2016 Premier League champion King to the Championship in the summer transfer window.

Nottingham Forest fans might have noticed that they have quite a few midfielders at their disposal right now.

But for all the energy and experience available to Aitor Karanka in the centre of the park, the Spanish tactician is perhaps lacking a player capable of scoring goals from deep.

With 17 games gone in the Championship season, only two of Forest’s midfielders have scored more than once – and Joao Carvalho and Matty Cash still have just two between them.

So Andy King would bring something different to the City Ground.

According to The Sun (31 August, live blog), Forest approached Leicester City about taking the out-of-favour fans’ favourite on loan but, by time the window slammed shut, long-serving King found himself stuck at the King Power Stadium.

But with the 30-year-old having been left out of every one of Leicester’s Premier League matchday squads this season, and spending much of his time with the U21s, The Foxes surely wouldn’t stand in King’s way should Nottingham Forest express their interest again.

And with the Nottingham Post reporting that Karanka could discard both Ben Watson and Liam Bridcutt in the winter, there may be room for the former Swansea City loanee in the East Midlands.

Considering that Lewis Grabban is the only Forest player looking capable of scoring goals on a regular basis right now, King could really help by chipping in with a few over the next few months.
