Youri Tielemans struggled once again as Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City beat Premier League rivals Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup second round.

Who are you and what have you done with Youri Tielemans?

That is the question on the lips of every Leicester City fan after yet another anonymous display from their £40 million record signing (the Telegraph).

The Foxes appeared to have pulled off one of the best deals of the entire transfer window when they fought off competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Tielemans on a permanent deal from Monaco.

The Belgian was a revelation during a loan spell at the King Power Stadium after all with his tally of three goals and four assists only the tip of the iceberg. The prospect of Tielemans staying for the long haul and developing alongside James Maddison and his former Anderlecht teammate Dennis Praet had Leicester fans drooling.

But something’s wrong.

The two-time Belgian Young Footballer of the Year just isn’t producing his typically masterful displays in the early weeks of the 2019/20 season and he was a shadow of his influential best in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Newcastle United – even if he did convert in clinical fashion during a victorious penalty shootout.

This Rolls Royce of a footballer appears to be running out of gas.
