Villarreal’s La Liga starlet Samuel Chukwueze has been linked with Premier League title chasers Liverpool.
Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all missed glorious chances to hit the target against Barcelona on Wednesday night, as Liverpool lost 3-0 at the Camp Nou in their Champions League semi-final first leg.
If only Liverpool’s feted triumvirate had shown the same composure in front of goal that Samuel Chukwueze displayed last month.
The Villarreal winger tore Barca apart in a thrilling 4-4 draw at the Estadio de la Ceramica at the start of April, scoring with a beautifully composed finish before adding an assist to his tally, too.
The La Liga champions simply couldn’t deal with Chukwueze’s blend of rapid pace and quality in the final third. So no wonder the 19-year-old Nigerian, who has a £54 million release clause, is being increasingly linked with a move away from the Spanish strugglers.
The Mail reported this week that he is on the radar of none other than Liverpool themselves. And Chukwueze has certainly passed his trial by social media with fans thrilled by the prospect of another jet-heeled forward making the move to Anfield.
He has already gone one better than Salah, Firmino and Mane by scoring against Barcelona after all.
