Glasgow Rangers sold Lewis Macleod to Brentford in 2014, but could he swap the Bees for Championship rivals Leeds United?

It is almost four years since Rangers cashed in on one of their promising academy products in recent seasons. Lewis Macleod played a major role in the Gers’ rise from the ashes but, in December 2014, they received an offer they seemingly could not refuse.
Brentford offered to pay £850,000, rising to £1.3 million, for the talented midfielder (Sunday Post). And, in truth, it is only now that Rangers fans should be starting to question whether the money was worth it.
Macleod has finally put those injury problems behind him to develop into a key player at Griffin Park this season. He has started 10 Championship games, scored two goals, and caught the eye with his energy and intelligence in possession.
The 24-year-old is now seemingly a man in demand. According to the Scottish Sun, Macleod has turned down a contract extension at Brentford with his current deal expiring at the end of the season, and it is understood that Leeds United are monitoring the situation.
Blessed with tactical intelligence and quality on the ball, Macleod looks a good fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s system at Elland Road, and his potential arrival would only boost the Whites’ hopes of ending their 15-year Premier League exile.

The report adds that Rangers could also make a move to bring Macleod back, but maybe they should not have sold him in the first place.
If the former Gers youngster moves to Leeds and takes his game to another level under Bielsa – who makes improving players something of an art – the Scottish Premiership side may be left wondering why they ever lost faith in Macleod.
