Laurens de Bock is on loan at Jupiler League outfit Oostende from Championship giants Leeds United.
If Laurens de Bock has any chance of forcing his way back into Leeds United’s first-team plans, he needs to make a real impression on loan at Oostende.
A £1.5 million January signing from Club Brugge, the Belgian left-back made just seven Championship appearances for The Whites in the second half of last season. And, after struggling badly in heavy defeats against the likes of Reading and Millwall, it didn’t take long for De Bock to lose his place.
Leeds paid £5 million to sign Scotland international and set piece specialist Barry Douglas from Wolves and De Bock returned to Belgium with a season-long loan at Oostende just a few weeks later.
And his return to the Jupiler League hasn’t exactly gone to plan so far. De Bock made his return to the first-team after six weeks out with injury on Sunday but his comeback did not have the desired effect.
Oostende were thrashed 4-0 at home by Gent. They are now 10th in the 16 team Jupiler League.
And, as it stands, a long term future at Leeds looks unlikely with Douglas and youngster Tom Pearce available to Marcelo Bielsa, who has also fielded Stuart Dallas at left-back when required.
