Championship giants Leeds United have been linked with Barnsley’s Everton loanee Joe Williams and Shrewsbury Town’s goalscoring dyanmo Jon Nolan.

If you are a central midfielder at Leeds United, chances are you have come in for some rather substantial criticism of late.
Since Paul Heckingbottom replaced Thomas Christiansen at Elland Road back in February, not one of Leeds’ options in the engine room has performed at his best. Ronaldo Vieira has looked a shadow of the player that burst onto the scene last season at times, while Adam Forshaw still has a lot to do to justify his £4.5 million price-tag.
And it is pretty clear that many fans have completely lost patience with Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane.
Fortunately, however, it seems that Leeds are at least putting plans in place to enhance their midfield options this summer – even if the names currently linked with a move to West Yorkshire will not exactly get the pulses racing.

The Sun (18th March, page 60) reported that Leeds are keen on Joe Williams, the gifted defensive midfielder who Paul Heckingbottom brought to Barnsley on loan from Everton last summer.
And The Mirror (19th March, page 47) states that Leeds also hold an interest in Jon Nolan, the 25-year-old dynamo who has been a major factor in Shrewsbury Town’s shock promotion bid in League One.

Nolan, who also started his career at Everton, has seven goals and six assists to his name this season and would give Leeds some much-needed creativity in the centre of the park should he make the step up to the Championship.
Now, Williams and Nolan would not exactly be signings that would get the fans flocking to the ticket office, but they would reinforce an area of Heckingbottom’s team that has flattered to deceive of late.
