Championship giants Leeds United are plotting a move to beat Preston North End to the signature of Rangers midfielder Josh Windass this January.

The chances of Josh Windass swapping Rangers for Leeds United this month look a little slim.
Windass, however, has made it clear that he would rather stay at Ibrox and is keen to sign a new contract with Rangers despite his current deal running until 2020.
Although if the decision is taken out of Windass’s hands and Rangers are willing to cash in on a player they signed for next to nothing when his contract at Accrington Stanley expired, it is clear to see what qualities he would offer Leeds.

Windass is, first and foremost, a goal-scoring midfielder. He earned his big break at Ibrox after plundering 17 in 35 games for Accrington in the 2015/16 season.
And after a difficult debut campaign north of the border, Windass has located his shooting boots in recent weeks and has scored six times in the league since late October.

His energy and dynamism in central midfield is an attribute some of the players at Leeds’ disposal lack. Although Kalvin Phillips has an impressive five goals to his name this season, the player himself admitted he feels more comfortable in a deeper role.
And it is fair to say Eunan O’Kane and Ronaldo Vieira are not exactly regulars on the score sheet.
So Windass would give Leeds an entirely new dimension with his powerful bursts into the box and laser-like finishing.
