Championship giants Leeds United must wish they still had Rob Green right now, with Felix Wiedwald toiling once again against Derby County.

Felix Wiedwald has turned in some improved performances for Leeds United since the turn of the year; that sensational one-man show in the goalless draw with Hull City last month a particular highlight.

But it seems the old issues remain regarding high balls into the box. Wiedwald flapped horribly on the first and looked helpless on the second as Bristol City raced into a two-goal lead at Elland Road on Sunday, both strikes coming from long throws.

And the former Werder Bremen goalkeeper did not exactly cover himself in glory either on Wednesday night. Another goalmouth scramble led to Kasey Palmer firing in a stoppage time equaliser for Derby County, meaning more dropped points for Leeds with many fans once again venting their frustration at the goalkeeper.

If Leeds are to progress, they simply must sign an upgrade over the summer. Rob Green rolled back the years for the Whites last season and perhaps the way to go is to bring in another veteran on a free transfer.

Allan McGregor, for example.

The Scotland international’s contract at Hull City expires in the summer and, although the Tigers have not earned their stripes this season as they hover above the drop zone, they would be in a much worse position without the 36-year-old McGregor.

The former Rangers man is an experienced leader and a shot-stopper with a winning mentality fostered during three Scottish Premiership title wins at Ibrox.

Leeds have suffered in Green’s absence but McGregor would be an almost identical signing, and one the Whites should seriously consider making.
