Leeds United saved most of their business until the back end of the transfer window, with the new additions still adapting to Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that it could take him a while longer before he adapts to Marcelo Bielsa’s system at Elland Road.

Bamford was brought in for Leeds in a £7 million deal this summer, but the striker has generally been held in reserve so far.

The forward was given a chance in the cup in midweek, and he scored to help Leeds beat Bolton Wanderers.

However, Bamford admits that he deserves to be behind Kemar Roofe at the moment, as he is still adjusting to Bielsa’s style.

“He (Roofe) has had the whole of pre-season with the manager, working on his ideas,” Bamford said. “If anything, bringing in new faces ups everyone’s game and that can only be good for the team.

“He was brilliant at Derby and took his goals brilliantly. I’m really happy for him and, as long as he keeps going, the team will do well. I know that might mean I have to wait a little bit to play but I’m ready whenever.

“Having six weeks with him, things become more natural whereas I’ve been here two weeks. It might take longer.”

The comments expose the only criticism that can be labelled at Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta this summer, in that they failed to get business done early.

Leeds ultimately had an excellent transfer window, with a number of new faces arriving.

However, there were serious concerns over a lack of ambition forming at Elland Road, as Leeds pondered for so long before getting deals over the line.

Bielsa has stuck by most of last season’s players so far, and although he has had great success, it is scary to think just how good Leeds might be right now if all the new signings had just as long to adapt to Bielsa’s tactics.
