Tony Yeboah will forever have a place in the heart of Leeds supporters so they don’t take too kindly to comparisons with a Manchester United star.

If you are a national media outlet, you should probably know by now that comparing Leeds United and Manchester United is not going to go down well on the white side of the rose.

There may not have been too many chapters added to this long-running rivalry in recent seasons but that does not mean the bitterness and the general revulsion has lessened in Yorkshire.

Therefore, ITV Sport’s official Twitter account should have expected a few responses when they decided to compare Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s sweetly struck match winner against Tottenham Hotspur to the crossbar-cracking thunderbolt of Tony Yeboah.

Yes, the Armenian’s hit was a thing of beauty, a true confirmation of his arrival in the English game, but it is hardly likely to transcend an era like Yeboah’s time-honoured classic against Liverpool all the way back in 1995.

You have seen it before. Countless times. That first-time uber-volley, blasted in off the underside of David James’ bar from 25 yards out.

In fact, even the most ardent Lancastrian would struggle to claim that Mkhitaryan’s first Premier League goal will be reaching the top ten of any YouTube montages or stocking filler DVDs in the coming years.

And, as for the Leeds fans, well they have made their feelings clear.
