The Italian businessman has finally finalised his purchase of 50 per cent of Leeds United.
You know the saying; once bitten twice shy. Well it’s fair to say Leeds United fans are entitled to be a little nervy when a smiling new owner walks into Elland Road with promises aplenty. After all, their trust has been ravaged by deceit and disappointment from the Ken Bates era to the present day.
However, while news of Massimo Cellino’s arrival in 2014 (below) occurred at almost precisely the same time as manager Brian McDermott was sacked and then reinstated in a baffling 24 hours, new 50 per cent shareholder Andrea Radrizzani is yet to instil any fears that he could sack six managers in three seasons or send the club spinning into oblivion. Which is a start.
At his first press conference, as reported by the club’s official website, the Italian paid homage to Leeds’ proud heritage and the commendable work performed by current manager Garry Monk. Whites fans can sleep easy knowing that they won’t be waking up to the news of the former Swansea boss’ departure.
Radrizzani would do well to beat Cellino in the controversy stakes but, for the time being, the Leeds fans are very much united behind their owner. And it’s not too often you can say that.
