Felix Wiedwald has come under fire again from Leeds United supporters after another mistake, but is it time for BPF at Elland Road?

If Leeds United fans’ patience with Felix Wiedwald was wearing thin, it has probably run out completely now.

The goalkeeper has made countless errors since arriving from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in the summer and did not cover himself in glory during Friday night’s damaging 3-0 defeat away to Middlesbrough.

Wiedwald’s inability to command his area or deal with high balls has been a regular criticism this season, but it was a speculative long-range strike instead that caught him out at the Riverside. The German was culpable for Patrick Bamford’s second in a 38-minute hat-trick.

And Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom, who has started Wiedwald in every one of his games in charge so far, admitted after the defeat that the 27-year-old’s position was on the line, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

And, with Leeds’ season seemingly all but over, some fans have called for the highly-rated under-23 goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to be given a chance to prove himself.

The more realistic section of the support, however, have argued that it makes little sense to introduce the 21-year-old, who has not featured for Leeds since the 2015/16 season, at this stage of the campaign.

He was far from impressive during a short-term loan at non-league club York City earlier in the season, after all, suggesting that Peacock-Farrell has a lot to learn before he can stake his claim to be Leeds’ number one.

If he was good enough, surely one of Leeds’ last three managers would have given him a chance by now.
