Andy Lonergan is expected to leave Leeds United for Championship rivals Sunderland and the Elland Road faithful want Aiden McGeady to come the other way.

With just one day remaining in the transfer window, a potential deal to take Andy Lonergan from Sunderland to Leeds United is still a little unclear.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that Leeds would let the 34-year-old leave for the Stadium of Light as long as they found a replacement, which could now be Arsenal-owned Getafe loanee Emiliano Martinez, if AS is to be believed.

But while Sunderland want a player from Elland Road, the Leeds fans seem quite keen to take one of the Black Cats’ key players in the other direction.

The footballing public will never be united in admiration nor condemnation towards Aiden McGeady but it is impossible to get away from the fact that he is one of the most naturally gifted players outside the Premier League.

In fact, the 31-year-old has been a shining beacon of creativity and class in an otherwise dismal Sunderland season, scoring five goals, setting up another three and giving their put upon supporters something to cheer about with his skill and unpredictability.

And it seems that McGeady, who was simply sensational at times for Preston North End last season, would be welcomed with open arms at Elland Road.

He would certainly be an upgrade on Hadi Sacko, as one Leeds fan suggested below:
