Adam Armstrong left Premier League giants Newcastle United for League One Blackburn Rovers in January, but could he cut it at Leeds United?

There is a striker at Blackburn Rovers that Leeds United fans would not mind seeing at Elland Road next season. Unfortunately for Marcus Antonsson, it is his Ewood Park teammate Adam Armstrong.

Unlike the Swedish forward, who joined Blackburn on loan from Leeds last summer after failing to make an impact in West Yorkshire, Armstrong is on fire in League One right now. Antonsson is 12 games without a goal but his 21-year-old colleague simply cannot stop scoring.

Newcastle owned Armstrong, who is also at Tony Mowbray’s side on a temporary basis, took his tally for Blackburn to nine in 10 starts with a double at MK Dons on Easter Monday. Rovers are now top of the League One table and, with the 21-year-old in unstoppable form, they are favourites for the title.

If only Leeds could call on a striker with such a fearsome record. Pierre-Michel Lasogga (below) has enjoyed a decent season on loan from Hamburg, but the other options are scraping the barrel somewhat. Caleb Ekuban, Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki have two league goals between them.

So despite Armstrong’s previous struggles in the Championship during spells at Barnsley and Bolton Wanderers, where he scored just once in the first half of this season, Leeds fans would seemingly welcome him to Elland Road if Newcastle are willing to part company this summer.
