Felix Wiedwald is a man under fire at the moment following a disastrous week for Leeds United.

Leeds United were warned about Felix Wiedwald before he even arrived at Elland Road. The German ‘keeper arrived in English football under a microscope thanks to a less than stellar reputation from his time in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.
The fact that he conceded 13 goals in his last three games for the club spoke volumes and there’s only so much you can blame on a shaky backline.
And, now that the dust has settled following an excellent run of six straight clean sheets that was, in truth, more down to Leeds’ excellent defensive shape, Wiedwald’s vulnerabilities have been ruthlessly exposed.

The 27-year-old has conceded eight goals in his last three games. And while his shot-stopping ability was called into question following successive defeats to Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday, Wiedwald’s command of his penalty area, or lack thereof, is another cause for concern.
Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan described Wiedwald as a ‘coward’ as Leeds went down 3-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday, per BBC Radio Leeds. While such an expression can seem harsh, it’s fair to say Leeds fans were less than impressed by Wiedwald’s inability or unwillingness to dominate the six-yard box.
In fact, some would even welcome the return of Italian Marco Silvestri, the very definition of a ‘good shot-stopper’ who struggles with almost every other element of goalkeeping.
