Five years after leaving Elland Road for Norwich City, now is the time for Leeds United to welcome back Jonny Howson.

Norwich's Jonny Howson scores their first goal

With Norwich City shipping almost seemingly half their squad this summer, you wonder what the future holds for Jonny Howson.

If he does indeed follow long-serving team-mates John Ruddy, Steven Whittaker, Michael Turner and Sebastian Bassong out of Carrow Road, he certainly won’t be short of suitors.

And there is one Championship rival who would walk over glass to sign the combative midfielder. Well, the supporters would anyway.

Because Jonny Howson was a bonafide fans favourite at Elland Road. The Morley-born local lad rose through the Thorpe Arch ranks before becoming the club’s youngest captain since the legendary Billy Bremner. It was a career path straight out of an eight-year-old’s daydream.

Until he was sold to Norwich in January 2012, that is. Fans protested, furious at the sale of their prized asset and homegrown hero. Five years on, however, Leeds may never have a better chance to bring him home.

Howson has been a regular for Norwich this season, producing 12 goals and assists in 36 Championship starts. However, with the club undergoing huge changes under new Director of Football Stuart Webber, the wondergoal specialist may the next casualty of the Carrow Road clear-out.

And it’s fair to say Howson donning that famous white once again would go some way to easing Leeds’ play-off pain.
