Championship duo Leeds United and Birmingham City both reportedly want to sign Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott.

Could Leeds United lose one of their most exciting transfer targets to the man who walked out on Elland Road in 2017?

Leeds have been one of the clubs most closely linked with the Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott during weeks of intense speculation. Goal-scoring was one of the club’s biggest problems in an underwhelming 2017/18 campaign and it seems that owner Andrea Radrizzani is willing to spend funds to remedy the problem.

The Yorkshire Evening Post state that Leeds are confident of meeting Abel Hernandez’s hefty wage demands while the £5 million-rated Marriott is also a target.

Leeds do not appear to have really gone full throttle for Marriott just yet, however. But reports in the Birmingham Mail that former manager Garry Monk wants to bring the 23-year-old to Birmingham City should spark his old employers into action.

Although £5 million is a lot of money for a striker who was playing in League Two with Luton Town just over a year ago, it is not often that a goal-scorer as prolific and promising as Marriott comes around. He scored 33 goals in all competitions last season.

And Peterborough appear to have given up in their attempts to keep him, signing Stevenage’s Matty Godden as a ready-made replacement.

While a deal for Hull talisman Hernandez appears to be edging closer, one new striker probably is not enough for Leeds this summer. Hernandez and Marriott would give Leeds quality, depth and goals aplenty, and the prospect of him starring under Monk at Birmingham instead does not bare thinking about.
