Leeds United are one of a number of Championship sides, as well as Glasgow Rangers, interested in signing Fleetwood Town’s Devante Cole.
Devante Cole has no shortage of options with the January transfer window in full swing.
According to the Sun, the Fleetwood Town striker is a target for Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, who are hoping to sign the 22-year-old on a pre-contract agreement as his deal with the League One club is set to come to an end in the summer.
It is understood that Millwall and in particular Sheffield United, who have been tracking Cole for some time, are also in the race.
And, according to Fleetwood’s Chief Executive Steve Curwood on talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast show (broadcast 6 January from 7:00am), so are Leeds United.
He admitted that the Cod Army have received ‘significant interest’ for Cole, son of Manchester United legend Andy. And it appears that Leeds will be the latest side attempting to lure Cole from the third tier this month.
Fleetwood are struggling this season and seemingly have no chance of reaching the play-offs for the second year in a row. But Cole, a former Manchester City youngster, has still kicked on with 10 goals in 22 starts in the league. He netted just five in 35 last season.
Leeds will have to move fast, however, with Rangers potentially offering Cole the chance to play in front of a huge Ibrox crowd and lead the line for one of the most historic clubs in British football.
But with the striker available on a cut-price deal as things stand, and with Fleetwood open to offers this month, Leeds should not miss an opportunity to bring one of the most promising strikers in the Football League to Elland Road.
Cole has never played above League One level but has the potential to step up. And he would add a much needed goal threat in attack with Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Pawel Cibicki struggling to hit the net.
