Leeds United’s defence has gone through many changes already this season, as manager Thomas Christiansen attempts to deal with injuries and suspensions while also settling on his strongest starting XI. And the Whites’ recent struggles suggest he needs to reassess his options at left-back, with a natural left-footer who favours that side of the field his best bet moving forward.

Vurnon Anita did a decent job there in the early weeks of the season, while fan favourite Gaetano Berardi will never be accused of not giving his all.

The problem is, the Swiss defender was caught out time and again against Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday and as much as he is loved by the Elland Road faithful, another change is surely on the cards after the international break.

While he may not have featured much thus far, summer signing Cameron Borthwick-Jackson surely deserves a chance to prove his worth in his natural position.

Leeds need balance and whatever struggles Borthwick-Jackson has had in recent times, he is highly rated at Manchester United and is a fine left-back when given the time to prove that.

Christiansen needs to take some risks after back-to-back defeats, changing his midfield personnel and bringing in a left-back who knows the position like the back of his hand.
