West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on £10m-rated Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips on the back of his fantastic Championship form.

Kalvin Phillips has come on leaps and bounds under Marcelo Bielsa this season. So much so that he is almost unrecognisable from the midfielder who left fans divided with his hit-and-miss performances across 2017/18.

It became clear right at the start of the season that Thorpe Arch graduate Phillips was set to be a key figure under the legendary Argentine tactician.

The 23-year-old has not only started all 21 of Leeds’ Championship fixtures, he has also become absolutely essential to Bielsa’s style of play, dictating the manager’s possession-based style from in front of the defence.

So surely Phillips should be having no thoughts about bidding farewell to Elland Road right now, with Bielsa helping the youngster fulfil his massive potential.

The Sun (9 December, page 52) claims that West Bromwich Albion are big fans of the £10 million-rated midfielder and will make a move for him if they are promoted this season.

The prospect of playing Premier League football will obviously appeal to Phillips, especially if Leeds miss out, but it seems that staying in West Yorkshire and continuing to hone his trade under Bielsa is the best option available to him right now.

According to TEAMtalk, Phillips has even been checked out by England with an international call-up apparently under consideration. So why fix what isn’t broken? Leeds is clearly the best place for Phillips for the foreseeable future.
