Leeds United reportedly wanted to bring Emi Buendia to the Championship before Norwich City brought him to Carrow Road.
Emi Buendia was one of the best players on the pitch as Norwich City beat Leeds United 3-1 at Elland Road on Saturday, overtaking Marcelo Bielsa’s side at the top of the Championship table.
The Argentine was typically influential in the centre of the park, carving open the hosts’ defence with his superb awareness and intelligent vision, while providing plenty of energy at the heart of a hard-working Canaries midfield.
Buendia has been a revelation since he arrived from Getafe for a bargain £1.35 million, according to Transfermarkt, but this was arguably his best performance in the famous yellow and green kit.
And, to make matters worse for Leeds fans who have seen their side lose five out of seven games, Buendia could have been wearing white instead.
According to the Sun (17 September 2017, page 63), Leeds were keen to bring Buendia to England a year ago with the little schemer shining on loan at The Whites’ Spanish sister club Cultural Leonesa.
And any Leeds fan who hat to sit through that home defeat against Daniel Farke’s high flyers will tell you that Buendia would have been a fine addition to their side and a perfect fit under Bielsa – especially with Pablo Hernandez looking a shadow of his Autumn peak.
It is near misses like this which can define a title race.
