Jermain Defoe has played just 21 mins of Premier League football for Bournemouth – so is a move to the Championship possible in the January transfer window?

Jermain Defoe may be 36 these days but there’s life in the old dog yet.
At least, that is the view of Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest fans with the veteran striker seemingly set to leave Bournemouth when the January transfer window swings open in a few weeks’ time.
According to the Nottingham Post, Defoe is open to the idea of joining Forest midway through the season to aid Aitor Karanka’s promotion push, having played just 21 minutes of Premier League football all season.
And while Forest are not short of strikers, the prospect of Defoe lining up alongside the red-hot Lewis Grabban has the City Ground faithful drooling.

But if Defoe is available in January, for a cut price fee no less, it seems that the former West Ham and Tottenham striker would be welcomed with open arms at Bramall Lane too.
Like Forest, sleeping giants Sheffield United are dreaming of a return to the big time this season and Defoe is the sort of instinctive, natural-born goalscorer who could turn defeats into draws, draws into wins over what is set to be a tense few months of Championship football.
The Sun reports that Defoe is an ambitious transfer target for Chris Wilder, who wants to make a statement in January.
