Steven Gerrard’s Rangers lost against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup before drawing with Kilmarnock.
Lee McCulloch has criticised Rangers midfielders Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack after the trio were outplayed in last week’s 2-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat to Aberdeen, speaking to the Evening Times.
Steven Gerrard’s hopes of marking his first season in management with a trophy came to an end when the Dons came to Ibrox, goals from Niall McGinn and Connor McLennan firing Derek McInnes’s side into the semi-finals.
Coveted captain Graeme Shinnie and teenager Lewis Ferguson, who was released by Rangers as a youngster, dominated in the centre of the midfield as Aberdeen sealed a deserved win in Glasgow.
And McCulloch has now taken aim at Gers trio Arfield, Jack and Kamara, the latter gifting Aberdeen the opening goal when his cross-field ball was intercepted by a grateful McGinn.
“Aberdeen bullied Rangers in midfield. They had Lewis Ferguson and Dean Campell, 19 and 17, in there along with Graeme Shinnie. They dominated Rangers at Ibrox. Not good enough,” said the former Rangers midfielder.
“Rangers had Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield, three experienced guys who were made to look like rookies.”
McCulloch claimed that the same problem was evident in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw against Kilmarnock, a result that means Rangers are now ten points adrift of Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
