Premier League high-flyers Wolverhampton Wanderers reached the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Championship outfit Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2003 after beating Bristol City 1-0 at Ashton Gate on Sunday afternoon.
Despite the hosts dominating much of the game, Wolves emerged victorious thanks to a first-half strike from Ivan Cavaleiro, the Portuguese winger converting his fifth goal of the season from an excellent Matt Docherty cross.
Bristol City were left to count the cost of a real missed opportunity and there was plenty of reasons for manager Lee Johnson to be frustrated, particularly as Wolves were perhaps fortunate not to be penalised for a handball in the build up to the game’s only goal.
But, speaking to Bristol Live, Johnson did take the time to praise the quality of Wolves’ display.
“I thought second-half we were excellent and we’ve got to respect Wolves are a fantastic side full of energy and power and quality. We really gave it a go for our supporters,” Johnson said.
“When you play against Wolves, they’re very smart in the way they work and obviously if you play a four they’ll often get the switch on.

“I know Nuno well because I did my coaching badges with him so I was the one hitting the diags in the coaching in his sessions in the coaching badges, so I know exactly how he likes to play. They do it well.”
Johnson is not the first manager who has paid tribute to Wolves this season and he will not be the last.
The former Valencia and Porto boss Nuno has led them into the top half of the Premier League table, beating Tottenham, Chelsea and Everton along the way, with a FA Cup quarter-final to look forward too as well.
