Charlton Athletic face a fight holding on to Karlan Grant, with Premier League strugglers Huddersfield Town reportedly joining Rangers in the race
Karlan Grant is expected to leave Charlton Athletic before the end of the January transfer window, but manager Lee Bowyer has not given up hope of keeping the striker at The Valley.
Grant has scored 14 goals in an impressive season for the League One side to attract interest from a whole host of other clubs.
Bowyer admitted to talkSPORT last week that Scottish Premiership powerhouses Rangers are interested, while latest claims from The Mail state that Huddersfield Town are leading the chase, closing in on a £2 million move to bring the 21-year-old to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Speaking to This is London, Bowyer has commented on the situation with his star man seemingly closer than ever to the exit.
“Do I think he’ll go? I hope he doesn’t,” he said.
“We wouldn’t be able to replace him, not what he brings to us, I hope he doesn’t go – I’ve said that to him on more than one occasion.
“I’m a realist and I have to be honest, he’s a good player.”
With Jermain Defoe, Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty all vying for a place at Rangers right now, not to mention the club’s talented young forwards like Zak Rudden and Ryan Hardie, Huddersfield are arguably in greater need of a new striker.
The Terriers are bottom of the Premier League table having scored a division-low 13 goals in 23 games.
