Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to raid Serie A powerhouses Lazio to bring Albanian goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha to the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur fans might have been left a little confused by reports from Calciomercato claiming the Premier League outfit are interested in Lazio number one Thomas Strakosha.

After all, the links emerged less than 24 hours after Hugo Lloris produced an inspired virtuoso performance as Spurs somehow kept a clean sheet in their 1-0 Champions League round of 16 second leg win away at Borussia Dortmund.

And, in Argentine international Paulo Gazzaniga, Spurs have one of the best back-up goalkeepers in English football.

As a result, suggestions of a summer move for Albania international Strakosha have raised eyebrows. But maybe comments from his Lazio teammate Silvio Proto explain why the 23-year-old has admirers in North London.

“I’ve never seen a goalkeeper as strong as him,” the veteran Belgian told La Lazio Siamo Noi back in November.

“The Albanian is young, big physically, explosive… He has everything needed to make a career at the top.”

Strakosha has ensured that fellow shot-stopper Proto has spent much of his time in Rome on the bench, the young ‘keeper having been Lazio’s undisputed number one for each of the last two seasons now.

With Michel Vorm set to leave when his contract expires, there is room in North London for one more goalkeeper and Strakosha could be the man who threatens to take Lloris’s starting place away.
