Sergio Ramos has won four La Liga titles with Real Madrid but the chances of him moving to the Premier League with Arsenal seem slim.

Unai Emery the head coach

The fact that Arsenal are 17 games unbeaten right now highlights the new found resolve and character that Unai Emery has brought to the Emirates.

A team that collapsed under the most minimal pressure during the final, drawn-out days of Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign in North London look reborn under the former Sevilla, Valencia and PSG coach this season.

Arsenal are just six points off Liverpool in second heading into the North London derby at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday after a gritty 2-1 win against Bournemouth which summed up the desire and commitment of Emery’s team.

But, speaking to SportingBet, Gunners legend Lauren believes that his former club are still lacking a truly commanding centre-back – and has identified one player he’d love to see strutting his stuff at The Emirates.

“I feel Arsenal could benefit from a commanding centre back. It’s been an issue for some time and I’m sure they’ll look to get a real leader who will take ownership of the back line,” said Lauren, who was the first-choice right-back in Arsenal’s last Premier League winning team in 2003/04.

“I would love to see Arsenal have a player like Sergio Ramos, who shows strong determination and leadership.”

Despite signing Soktratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Arsenal still look a little vulnerable in defence at times and signing Ramos, the captain of Real Madrid, would go a long way to taking The Gunners to the next level.

The 161-time Spain international is one of the most successful players of his generation, winning four La Liga and Champions League titles apiece – though luring Ramos from the Bernabau looks like little more than a pipe dream in all honesty.
