Premier League trio Everton, Newcastle United and Southampton were all battling to sign France U21 star Yann Karamoh from Ligue 1 side Caen.

Yann Karamoh had a whole host of Premier League suitors during last summer’s transfer window.

The teenage winger enjoyed a fine breakthrough season in Ligue 1 with Caen and was certain to get his big break elsewhere. As reported by France Football in June, Everton and Southampton were keen while the Shields Gazette stated that Newcastle United were big fans of the then 18-year-old whizzkid.

In the end, however, Karamoh joined Inter Milan on a two-year loan with an option to make the deal permanent for around £5 million. And despite just starting two of his seven Serie A appearances since moving to Italy, it seems that the France U21 starlet has still done enough to attract interest from even bigger clubs.

It is understood that La Liga giants Barcelona are very keen on the jet-heeled right-winger – and could even be willing to pay £25 million to lure him to the Camp Nou, according to The Mirror.

Needless to say, Everton, Southampton and Newcastle could be kicking themselves at their failure to lure Karamoh over to England for about a fifth of his current price.

Newcastle and Southampton are stuttering at the wrong end of the Premier League table thanks largely to a lack of creativity and unpredictability in the final third. Newcastle have averaged less than a goal a game this season while The Saints have just 29 in 28.

Everton, meanwhile, are the lowest scorers in the top half bar Burnley and have lacked that speed and directness from out wide all season. With Karamoh starting to show off his talents at Inter, he’d have looked an inspired addition at Goodison Park.
