Tottenham Hotspur loaned Anthony Georgiou to Paul Lambert’s League One leaders Ipswich Town over the summer.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert insists that Tottenham Hotspur loanee Anthony Georgiou is still a key part of his plans despite the youngster being dropped to the U23 squad this week, speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times.
Georgiou has failed to force his way into Lambert’s starting XI since arriving at Portman Road over the summer. The Cypriot international has made five appearances, all as a substitute, and he was left on the bench during the 1-0 win at Gillingham last weekend.
And Spurs might have been concerned to see Georgiou line up for Ipswich’s U23 side during a midweek defeat to Charlton Athletic. Had the Lewisham-born 22-year-old fallen out of favour already at the League One leaders?
With speculation swirling, Lambert has chosen the right time to speak warmly about Georgiou’s potential before a Saturday clash with Tranmere Rovers.

“Anthony I think is a big talent, (dropping him to the U23s) was just to give him a run-out,” explained the former Stoke and Norwich coach.
“He’s been part of the first team and will continue to do that for us this weekend.”
The ‘first team’, however, doesn’t necessarily mean the starting XI.
If Georgiou wants to win over Mauricio Pochettino and prove that he deserves a role at the Premier League giants, he needs to start playing regularly in the third tier.
