Barca signed Samuel Umtiti, Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez this summer, and Graham Hunter believes they could challenge for a first-team place.
Spanish football journalist Graham Hunter has praised the hunger of Barcelona’s new signings, believing they can put pressure on the club’s established stars.
Barca have spent the summer months improving the depth of their already exceptional squad, bringing in centre-back Samuel Umtiti from Lyon (below), left-back Lucas Digne from Roma, and talented playmakers Denis Suarez and Andre Gomes.
The quartet impressed as Barcelona cruised past Sevilla 5-0 on aggregate to lift the Spanish Super Cup last week, and Hunter believes this display proves that they could soon push for a first-team place at the Camp Nou.
“We can look on the left-footed passing skills of Umtiti, we can look at the way in which Digne already looks like a replica of Jordi Alba but younger, which is an incredible achievement, we can pick on the smoothness on the ball of Suarez (below),” Hunter said on Sky Sports’ Revista Bitesize.
“But before we do the individual looking, what I like is that there has been a transfusion of hunger. Guys who haven’t won trophies who are there to do a job, to challenge for a first-team place
“For people at Barcelona, serial winners, they must feel people breathing down their necks for their positions.”
With Andres Iniesta (below) and Jeremy Mathieu currently side-lined with injury, Barca’s summer signings have an excellent chance to stake their claim for a first team place.
