Kyle Lafferty’s disappointing return to Rangers could be the end of his career in the Scottish Premiership.

Kyle Lafferty could seal his move away from Rangers within the next 24 hours, according to the Scottish Sun, with manager Steven Gerrard confirming that the striker is set to leave.

You have to feel for Lafferty. He could hardly have been happier when he sealed a dream return to Ibrox last summer, signing from Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts for £500,000 (Evening Express).

The Northern Ireland international was outstanding at Tynecastle, scoring 19 times in his final campaign for the Edinburgh outfit. But goals were far harder to come by at Rangers.

In total, Lafferty found the net just once in his final 24 games for club and country across 2018/19. And with Jermain Defoe and Greg Stewart arriving in Glasgow over the last six months, that dismal run of form looks set to spell the end of the veteran striker’s second spell as a Rangers player.

“I’m told Kyle Lafferty is close to finding a solution from a mutual point of view,” Gerrard said.

“I think there’s something loading there that might be released today or tomorrow so we wait and see.”

The Sun adds that Lafferty could as soon as Thursday with the former Burnley and Norwich City attacker set to follow Daniel Candeias and Jak Alnwick out of the exit door this week.

We are no closer to finding out where Lafferty will be playing his football next season, though a nomadic striker who has earned a living in Switzerland, Turkey and Italy is expected to add another country to his collection.

The Scotsman reported recently that he was a target for Cypriot outfit Apollon Limassol while he also turned down a move to Thailand with Buriham United, according to the Daily Record.
