Loic Remy has endured a difficult few years at Chelsea but the Everton-linked striker should not be written off just yet.

Sky Sports’ claims that Everton are considering a move for Chelsea striker Loic Remy has left the Goodison Park fanbase divided.

On one hand, Remy is a proven Premier League goalscorer with 29 goals in 49 starts since moving to arguably Europe’s most competitive league with QPR in January 2013.

On the other, the 30-year-old’s reputation has plummeted in recent seasons, starting just nine league fixtures in a disappointing two years with Chelsea before failing to make any kind of impact during an injury-stricken, season-long loan at Crystal Palace in 2016/17.

Furthermore, Everton are under pressure to find a forward capable of replacing Romelu Lukaku, who became the first Toffees player since Gary Lineker in 1986 to score more than 20 goals in a single league season in the previous campaign.

Despite raising expectations with a picturebook goal en debut in pre-season, doubts remain over whether 31-year-old Wayne Rooney can last the pace. Meanwhile, Sandro Ramirez’ scoring record in Spain was remarkable but more established strikers have struggled to adapt in the Premier League after finding the net for fun in La Liga.

Remy, at least, has plenty of experience under his belt in England’s top flight.

And, according to Gazetta Dello Sport, Chelsea are so determined to get the former Marseille speedster off their wage bill that they may let him go for a fraction of the £11.2 million they paid QPR for his signature three years ago.

Therefore, although Remy has not featured regularly for three years, spending most of that time alternating between the bench and the treatment table, a bargain fee means he would be almost a no-risk signing for Everton.

Best case scenario? Remy finds his form, his fitness and ensures Lukaku’s departure isn’t quite as damaging as first thought.
