Premier League outfit Liverpool have reportedly named their price for Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is proving to be rather savvy in the transfer market, and not just in terms of the players he is bringing in to Anfield.
The German has developed a rather handy knack of earning big money for players on the fringes of the Liverpool first-team. Danny Ward cost Leicester City £12.5 million, Jordan Ibe for £15 million, £24 million for Mamadou Sakho and, next summer, Southampton will pay £20 million for Danny Ings.
Outstanding business, we’re sure you agree. And should Liverpool make a £15 million profit on Marko Grujic, that will be yet another impressive deal to add to the collection.
According to the Liverpool Echo, The Reds have rejected a £9 million bid from Torino for the Serbian midfielder, who hasn’t lived up to expectations since his £5 million move to Anfield from Red Star Belgrade in January 2016.
Despite this, however, Liverpool value Grujic closer to £20 million. And it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a club will pay that amount in today’s madcap market – particularly as the former Cardiff loanee is just 22 and has plenty of potential in his locker.
Klopp has been criticised in some quarters for allegedly spending his way to success at Anfield. But when you underpin their big investments with the money they have raked in from player sales, the former Dortmund boss deserves more credit than he is getting right now.
