Leeds United, Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are all eyeing the Championship title this season.

Kevin Phillips has described Leeds United and Norwich City as the two best teams in the Championship this season but believes West Bromwich Albion could storm through to seize the title, while speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT (February 21, 12.30pm).

The former England international spent the first half of the season working under Gary Rowett at Stoke City, spending seven months in the Potteries before leaving in January.

But Phillips learned a lot about the Championship during his short spell at the Bet 365 Stadium. Namely, that Norwich and Leeds are two formidable teams when they are on form.

Stoke secured a shock 1-0 win at Norwich in October but could very easily have been beaten by the free-flowing Canaries, while they were outclassed on the opening day of the season at Leeds, losing 3-1 at Elland Road.

“The best teams we came up against were Leeds and Norwich,” said Phillips.

“We managed to beat Norwich. We got absolutely annihilated but we got a goal. Leeds, first game of the season battered us. They’re the two best teams in the Championship.”

Despite praising Norwich and Leeds, however, Phillips believes that one of his former clubs will be lifting the trophy in May – West Bromwich Albion.

“I felt what Darren Moore is doing at West Brom, the players he brought in in January, I tipped them to get promoted. I’m going to stick with that,” he added, naming the Baggies when asked by Jim White who will win the Championship this season.

West Brom are currently fourth but they are just three points off the top of the table and there is no side in the league who have scored as many as their 67 goals. As Phillips points out, the smart January recruits of Jacob Murphy, Stefan Johansen, Mason Holgate and Jefferson Montero could make the difference.
