Bernard and Theo Walcott have made Marco Silva’s Everton much more exciting in the new Premier League season.
Only two teams in the Premier League created fewer goal-scoring chances than Everton last season.
And, while much of the blame will be put on the shoulders of Sam Allardyce, you can only work with what you are given and there was a real lack of cutting edge in Everton’s attack last season.
Fortunately, things have changed of late. Marco Silva’s side look far more fluent and dangerous in attack right now, and Toffees legend Kevin Campbell has paid tribute to two players who have made a big impact already this season.
“Bernard is a wonderful player,” Campbell told evertonfc.com.
“He is that creative spark and can provide an important bridge between midfield and attack. The top teams have those players who help you get out of your defensive shape and up the field when you have the ball – and are capable of picking a telling pass.
“What a player he is. And I believe the best is yet to come from Bernard, I really do.”
Bernard has really caught the eye since he arrived on a free transfer from Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, setting up Richarlison’s opener in the recent 2-1 away win at Leicester City after a mazy run down the left wing.
On the opposite flank, Theo Walcott is rebuilding his reputation after a £20 million January move from Arsenal, scoring three goals in all competitions this season.
Like Bernard, Campbell is confident that the former England international can have a major impact at Goodison Park in the next few seasons.
“He is going to be a very important player for Everton and I am very positive about what the next few years might hold for him,” he said.
