Alfredo Morelos was sent off as Rangers lost 1-0 to Scottish Premiership rivals Celtic in last week’s Old Firm derby.
Kenny Dalglish says Alfredo Morelos could do worse than learn from Celtic skipper Scott Brown as controversy continues to overshadow the Rangers striker’s qualities in front of goal, while speaking to the Sunday Post.
The firebrand Colombian has scored 29 goals in all competitions this season but his disciplinary record is arguably even more eye-catching.
Morelos has picked up five red cards in 2018/19, the latest coming as he cost his side dear with a stupid elbow on Brown as Rangers lost 1-0 at Celtic a week ago.
Brown himself is hardly universally admired north of the border, but the long-serving skipper certainly knows how to keep his cool when required. He has matured with age, something Dalglish feels Morelos needs to do.
“He let himself, his manager, his team-mates and the club’s supporters down. Big time,” said the Liverpool legend, who had a spell as Celtic’s manager in 2000.
“When you think back to Scott Brown’s career at Hibs, and his first four or five years at Celtic, he could be wound-up and opponents tried to lure him in, and make him lose focus.
“They knew he was a player capable of causing them problems with his ability, and they wanted him out of the way.
“Brown learned to adapt, to shrug off the wind-ups, to channel his energy in the right manner and focus on being a positive influence for his team. Morelos should learn from that.”
Morelos signed a new contract at Rangers recently, seemingly committing his future to the club who signed him from Finnish outfit HJK Helsinki in 2017.
And, in truth, any club hoping to sign Morelos would surely have second thoughts after seeing the 22-year-old pick up another stupid red card. Fans of Leicester City certainly weren’t impressed.
