Leeds United reportedly wanted to bring Fran Sol to the Championship after his 17 goals for Eredivisie outfit Willem II.

Two years ago, Leeds United had a real chance of ending their Premier League exile, only for a lack of activity in the January transfer window to cost them dear as Garry Monk’s side finished seventh, one place outside the play-offs. And has history just repeated itself?
Despite being linked with a whole host of potential signings, Kiko Casilla was the only new addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s squad last month. But the fans’ greatest fears might just have come true; Leeds might have left themselves short again.
TEAMtalk claimed that the Whites wanted to sign the prolific Willem II striker Fran Sol, who scored 17 goals in 20 games in all competitions during the first half of the season.
The Spanish poacher is a natural goal-scorer, blessed with superb one-touch finishing and the movement of a true marksman. According to Laotra Liga, however, Sol joined Dinamo Kiev instead for just £2.7 million.

In hindsight, however, a new striker could have been priceless. Because, in arguably Leeds’ biggest injury blow so far, top scorer Kemar Roofe suffered ligament damage in last week’s win against Swansea City and could be ruled out for an extended period with promotion on the line.
Leeds will be praying that Patrick Bamford can still fit and that Tyler Roberts can step up. But could missing out on Sol come back to haunt them?
