Steve Bruce has been sacked by Aston Villa after two years in charge of the Championship club.
There was a real sense of inevitability about Steve Bruce’s sacking at Aston Villa.
Club owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens backed the experienced gaffer in the summer when links with Thierry Henry emerged. But, after a run of one win in 10 games and amid a toxic atmosphere on the Villa Park terraces, it seemed only a matter of time before Bruce had to be moved on.
And, understandably, there has been a lot of reaction on Twitter, including from Aston Villa’s former CEO Keith Wyness.
Wyness was key to Bruce’s arrival at Villa Park in October 2016, telling the Guardian that the club had secured an ‘excellent manager’ with a history of getting teams promoted. Understandably, then, the now-departed Wyness seems disappointed to see Bruce given the axe.
Former Aston Villa hero Ian Taylor, however, appears to have summed up the views of the fans perfectly. Taylor, who represented the Midland giants between 1994 and 2003, clearly believes that a fresh start is required and it is difficult to disagree.
A wide-range of coaches have been tipped to take over at Villa Park, including Jorge Mendes clients Carlos Carvalhal and Paulo Fonseca.
