Charlton Athletic striker Karlan Grant is reportedly a target for Premier League bottom club Huddersfield and Scottish Premiership joint-leaders Rangers.
Karlan Grant’s electric form for Charlton Athletic has caught the eye of two clubs – Rangers and Huddersfield Town.
The London Evening Standard claimed last week that Steven Gerrard wants to make The Addicks’ star man his latest January signing. And, on Sunday, The Sun (20 January, page 63) reported that Huddersfield are also interested in a player valued at just £1.5 million with his contract expiring in June.
But who should Grant pick on the back of a 14-goal season in League One?
Well, Huddersfield can obviously offer the 21-year-old Premier League football but he needs to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. The Terriers are bottom of the table, 11 points from safety, and set to appoint an unproven manager in Jan Siewert.
The chances are that they will be playing Championship football in a few months’ time and suddenly Huddersfield perhaps doesn’t quite seem like such a step up.
In stark contrast, Rangers are a club on the rise. They are level with Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a historic title in their sights.
And even if they finish second, they surely still have European football to look forward to again heading towards 2019/20. All in all, Rangers could offer a more attractive package than their Yorkshire rivals.
